My Pilates Journey

My name is Sharon and I am an experienced and highly qualified Pilates teacher. During my osteopathic training, I wanted a skill to help me earn a little extra money. Many of my fellow students chose sports massage but I decided to train as a Plates teacher and what a great decision that has turned out to be.

For me, Pilates has fitted like a glove with my work as an osteopath. Now I teach up to 10 Pilates classes a week, teach it on a 1-2-1 basis and find it very helpful for many of my patients for exercise prescription. I have always enjoyed teaching, having started by teaching people to ride horses. Now I am passionate about teaching Pilates, I have experience the benefits to both mind and body myself and have seen them in so many of my pupils and patients.

I regularly attend Pilates teacher training courses and am always looking to improve my own practice and knowledge. I first qualified with Pilates Training Solutions and gained the level 3 YMCA Pilates teacher qualification. I then went on to train with the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute and am a fully qualified APPI teacher.
I have also completed the following courses:

Pilates for horse riders
Pilates for osteoporosis
Pilates and small equipment

Teaching Pilates for horse riders is a natural progression for me. I attended Bishop Burton College of Agriculture at the beginning of my career, qualifying as a BHSAI and obtaining the Diploma in Equine and Business Studies. I went on to teach and train horses and riders and still have my own horses. Pilates for horse riders gives me the chance to combine my passion for horse riding and Pilates and I know first hand the difference Pilates can make to the horse rider.

Barry Pilates is part of Romilly Osteopathy and Pilates.
We are based at St Nicholas Hall in Barry, which is a nice community hall.

  • The classes take place in a friendly, calm and welcoming atmosphere. You do have to concentrate and work hard but it is an hour that goes so quickly that you don’t always realise how hard you have worked.

  • Since attending Sharon’s Pilates class I feel stronger and fitter. Pilates is a great way to keep in shape when aerobic exercise is not an option. I’ve been to several different Pilates classes over the years but Sharon’s is the best. I always leave feeling so much better for it.

  • Sharon’s classes have made a real difference, and my back and neck pain is a thing of the past.  Sharon runs the classes in a relaxed and easy going way but with great commitment. No-one  feels they have to keep up and no-one feels at all uncomfortable if they can’t manage some of the
